THE REFLECTION OF THE CHANGE CREATED BY THE PANDEMIC ON THE ARCHITECTURE IS TURNED INTO A BOOK BY NIPOPON PAINT
Asia’s leading paint brand, Nippon Paint, has compiled a book about the talk series "Change with Nippon Paint", in which the effects of the change caused by the pandemic on architecture and design are evaluated in terms of society, cities and business life.
The book titled "Change, Reflections of the New Normal in Architecture", which was prepared to inspire the present and open the doors of the past for future generations, includes the experiences and discourses, in the first months of the pandemic period, of the experts who participated in the online events organized by Nippon Paint, and the evaluations of architects and interior architects.

Organizing the online “Change with Nippon Paint” events in order to establish a dialogue with the architecture and design community in Turkey, Nippon Paint compiled the reflections of change in the world of architecture in the book titled “Change, Reflections of New Normal in Architecture”, where the effects of change on society, cities and business life are evaluated.
The book includes the experiences and discourses of Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Sibel Çakır, Urban Strategy Specialist Faruk Göksu, and Harvard Business Review Turkey Editor-in-Chief Serdar Turan, who are the speakers of the events attended by 34 architects and interior designers, as well as the evaluations of architects and interior designers.
Is it possible for cities that are designed by imagining together, that can be lived together, that protect nature, that can be walked in, or for the buildings that we live and work in to be created by reconsideration?
Can design aim for an environment that surrounds, protects and inspires us?
Can architecture become organic, just like the world threatened by the virus?
The book being the narrative of the “Change with Nippon Paint” activities in which the answers to these and similar questions are sought, aims to inspire the present and open the doors of the past to the future generations.
Psychological change and a sense of trust The psychology of the individual in the process of change is examined in “The Effect of Change on Society” section of the book, which consists of 3 parts. The current and possible effects of physical and social changes on architecture are discussed through the reflections of social psychology on the individual.
Different scales such as open and closed spaces, green and public spaces are viewed through psychology at different scales. The issue of how to re-establish a sense of trust in the current period is discussed. The pulse of urban systems is feltIn the section “The Impact of Change on Cities”, the pulse of cities and urban systems is felt.
The period we are going through is not only considered as a health crisis, but also as a system crisis. For this reason, what the systems are and how they are constructed is being discussed. The current and possible effects of dense and compact cities on architecture are mentioned.
Answers are sought for the questions of urban transportation, integration with green areas and how walkable cities should be. Business models will inevitably change.In the section “The Impact of Change on Business Life”, the intersection of working life and business models with space is examined.
The current period shows that online and remote working methods will inevitably change the business models. How this situation is reflected in business strategies is mentioned. In systems where close contact with people is established, such as tourism and entertainment, the issue of security is addressed.
How the simplification with the effects of the climate crisis and the appreciation of the human-oriented approach will change the sectors is discussed.
